Retaining Walls
Retaining walls are relatively rigid walls used for supporting soil laterally so that it can be retained at different levels on the two sides. These walls are designed to restrain soil to a slope that it would not naturally keep to.
Retaining walls are used for several reasons: to prevent erosion, hold soil from sliding away from a structure, and as a way to increase the usable space on a sloped location. A retaining wall can turn an unusable slope into a terrace ready for landscaping.
There are various types of retaining walls, including cantilevered, anchored wall, and reinforced. Köhn Construction Solutions works tirelessly with engineers and soil specialists to determine best fit for each project, taking into account all of the factors involved including access, budget, geo-technical requirements, and function.
Erosion Control and Soil Stability
Erosion control is essential in preventing water pollution and property loss. It involves the creation of a physical barrier to minimize or prevent erosion caused by wind or water, as well as building and maintaining storm drains. On construction sites erosion control is usually implemented along with sediment control such as silt fences.
Köhn Construction Solutions is experienced in a variety of solutions, including native re-vegetation, retaining walls, mesh and netting (ie. Nylex system), gabion baskets, erosion control mats, and interlocking blocks.
Shoreline Protection
Köhn Construction Solutions has over 35 years of experience in protecting and stabilizing shorelines. Installing fully engineered, location-appropriate systems, we protect shorelines against storm damage, flooding, and erosion.
Depending on the situation, these systems include soft shore techniques (ie. re-vegetation), vegetated rip-rap (combining planting with stones or boulder armouring), and hard armouring (concrete bulkheads, armour stone revetments, riprap, and gabion walls.
